Rose of Tralee Opens Applications for 2026 Rose Buds & Rose Buddies

The Rose of Tralee International Festival has officially launched its search for the 2026 Rose Buds and Rose Buddies, as the much-loved initiative returns for its second year welcoming both girls and boys aged 6 to 10.

Following the hugely positive response to last year’s introduction of Rose Buddies, which saw boys join the programme for the first time, the Festival is once again inviting young children from across Ireland and around the world to take part in one of the most heartwarming elements of Festival week.

The Rose Buds & Rose Buddies programme offers children the opportunity to experience the magic of the Festival up close — meeting the Roses and Rose Escorts, participating in key events including the Rose Parade and live television shows, and forming friendships that often last well beyond August in Tralee.

Festival Director Suzan O’Gara said:

“The response to Rose Buddies in 2025 was incredibly special. Families embraced it wholeheartedly, and the children brought such joy and energy to the Festival. We’re proud to continue building a programme that reflects community, inclusion and fun at its heart. The Rose Buds and Rose Buddies truly represent the next generation of Festival spirit.”

In 2026, 32 Rose Buds and 32 Rose Buddies will be selected to take part in the Festival, where they will be paired with Roses and Rose Escorts and become mini ambassadors throughout the week’s celebrations.

The 2026 Rose of Tralee International Festival will take place from August 14th-18th in Tralee, Co. Kerry, promising five days of celebration, culture and connection — with the youngest members of the Festival family once again taking centre stage.
